Product Design

With a focus on customer needs in real-world situations, Maxpedition stays clear of fads and gimmicks. We strive to design gear that is easy to use, easy to carry, and above all, easy to maintain. Our design efforts incorporate don’t stop at style and function, we work closely with our factory to make sure the construction of the bag is designed in a way that promotes longevity and reliability. What use is a durable bag if you can’t get the zippers open?

Material Selection

Over the years Maxpedition has expanded to use different types of materials in the gear we produce. The materials we select go through the same scrutiny that our designs do to make sure they live up to our your expectations. From fabrics to buckles we test everything to make sure it lasts.

Testing and Evaluation

Once the prototypes are complete, Maxpedition runs a series of tests both mechanical and in the field. These tests focus on material parts, construction and use in the field. If we find an issue with any aspect of a design we work to correct it or we simply start over. See the video below to get an understanding of the mechanical tests we run.

To make the best bags and packs, Maxpedition® cuts no corners.

1.) Starting with large, unseamed panels of 1000 Denier Nylon, we meticulously reinforce each stress point with composite thread. No unnecessary seams or polyester parts are used.

2.) Next we add military grade nylon webbing for straps, handles, and modular attachment points. Genuine Duraflex™ buckles and hardware add strength and functionality.

3.) We use complete YKK® zippers and slides exclusively unlike our competitors who put YKK® slides on generic zippers.

4.) We finish our bags with a triple coat of polyurethane for water resistance and add a final coat of Teflon® Fabric Protector to repel the elements. Only the best components and designs are used.

5.) Additional items to expand on: military grade nylon webbing, parachord, 1000 denier nylon, Duraflex, full YKK zippers, tripple poly urethane coating, Dupont teflon fabric protector.
